Scale Tone Approach Notes

If you have not already, I suggest you go check out the Chromatic Approaches Notes post before you continue.

Like with chromatic approach notes, we will first be approaching our target note C from above then look at a few examples from below, this time using notes from the C major scale. In this example I also use octave displacement, it not only makes the lines easier to play ( on guitar ) but it creates a very different sound. Try to come up with your own approaches using scale tones, chromatics, and octave displacement.

I plan to elaborate on octave displacement in it’s own post soon, but so that you understand the gist of it, I have included a small example where we break the C major scale up into two octaves.


I use A as the target notes in this video but it works with C or any other target notes just the same!
