Music Lessons
In his 15 years as a musician, Collin has developed a deep love and respect for all kinds of music. He has experience performing and teaching many genres including rock, funk, jazz, blues, R&B, classical, fusion, pop, and hip-hop.
Growing up in Galveston, Collin was first introduced to the guitar at age 11 and soon after began taking lessons from grammy-nominated guitarist Bert Wills. Alongside guitar, Collin was active in band throughout his schooling, starting as a percussionist in middle school, then continuing on to Jazz band as a guitarist in high school. After graduating highschool in 2009, he moved to Austin and studied composition at ACC where he began playing piano to aid in his arrangement and composition studies. After ACC, he led his own bands for several years, with official SXSW performances in 2013 and 2019. During this time he also performed with other groups as a sideman, including a national tour with Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears in 2017.
Over the years as a band leader and performer, Collin’s focus began to shift further towards writing, production, and sharing his experience through teaching. At the onset of the pandemic in 2020, and the halt of live performances, he began teaching privately over zoom, later teaming up with Lonestar Music School which would eventually become Velocity Music Academy. When he is not teaching, Collin spends much of his time writing and recording music in his home studio, or on the trail with his dog Misha.
As your instructor, Collin will draw upon his extensive experience as a professional musician to help you or your child reach your playing goals. Whether you want to play at home in the living room, on the weekend with friends, or have aspirations of writing a hit song, Collin can help you get where you want to go.
Collin’s teaching method is highly focused on practicality, giving students the tools and knowledge they need to explore their instrument as both a creative tool and source of confidence and joy.
